Dining tables in our store
Each of these is made to order. Pick the size and wood on the product page, or ask us to change the design.
How big should your table be?
We plan on about 24 inches of table edge per person. Most dining tops are 36–42 inches wide, which leaves room for serving dishes down the middle.
- 4 people: about 48″ long with everyone along the sides, or a 36–48″ square or round table
- 6 people: about 72″ long with everyone along the sides, or about 48″ with one person at each end
- 8 people: about 96″ long with everyone along the sides, or about 72″ with one person at each end
- 10 people: about 120″ long with everyone along the sides, or about 96″ with one person at each end
- 12 people: about 144″ long with everyone along the sides, or about 120″ with one person at each end
Round tables: divide the circumference (diameter × 3.14) by 24. A 48″ round seats about 6; a 60″ round seats about 7–8.
Leave at least 36 inches between the table edge and walls or furniture, and 42–48 inches where people need to walk behind seated guests. For comfortable legroom, allow 10–12 inches between the seat and the underside of the apron.

Bases
The base sets the look of the table as much as the top does. The designs in our store include hand-shaped solid-wood legs, an interconnected solid-wood base, solid-wood legs with black aluminum rails on our extension table, hairpin legs on our live edge coffee tables, and a steel base on the Mara Table.
We also build custom bases. For custom projects we can order a pre-made steel base, and if we can’t find the right one, we can make a steel base in house.
Woods, live edge and character
From least to most expensive, the woods we work with are Ash, Cherry, Maple, Oak, Walnut, Curly Maple, Wenge, Zebrawood. Our wood guide explains how each one looks, wears and changes color over time.
We offer live edge tops for clients who want that look, and we build in any style — from rustic to clean and modern.
Cracks, voids and soft spots are part of what makes live edge and figured wood beautiful. We stabilize them with inlays such as bowties, black-dyed epoxy, black CA glue for small cracks and pinholes, and thin CA glue to stiffen punky (soft) wood before we continue stabilizing it.

Questions about custom tables
How long does a custom dining table take?
Made-to-order pieces take 6–12 weeks from order; some projects take a little longer. We take the time needed to build your piece safely and correctly the first time, rather than rushing to an arbitrary deadline and risking skipped steps. Everything we make is built to last for generations. If you have a firm deadline, we can often commit to it for a rush fee. The fee depends on how quickly you need the piece.
How much does a custom dining table cost?
Dining tables typically start around $5,100. The dining tables in our store currently start between $3,010 and $11,120, depending on the design; size and wood change the price. Coffee, side and accent tables typically start around $2,400. A custom design is priced once we know the size, wood, base and finish. See how our process works.
Is there a design fee?
Our design fee is $200, and it is credited toward your final price if you move forward with the build. It covers the initial design and two follow-up revisions. Send us photos of a table or project close to what you want and we will work from those, or describe what you have in mind and we will create a design from your description.
How do deposits and payments work?
We take credit cards only. Once we agree on the details, we both sign a contract — before any work starts and before the down payment. Then it’s 70% down, and the remaining 30% when your piece is finished. If you want to change something after the contract is signed, we write it up as a change order. Once the change order is signed and the additional fee is paid, we start on the change.
Can I change the size or wood of a table in your store?
Yes. Most store pieces are made to order in a variety of sizes and woods, and we can build other sizes on request. Ask us about your size.
Can you match a table or style I already have?
We can match a style closely, but not exactly, and we can color match, but we can’t guarantee an exact match.
Can I pick out my own boards?
We usually don’t keep much material on hand for clients to pick from, unless we have large, unique pieces in the shop. We buy from suppliers in Southern Wisconsin, Washington State and Pennsylvania, and from our local supplier, who sources a lot of material from Missouri.
Do you deliver?
Delivery is free within 30 miles of Fargo. We usually deliver ourselves, so we may ask for a hand carrying the top or parts inside — at most 3–4 people, and not always needed. Beyond 30 miles we quote a delivery fee. We deliver across the US and prefer to deliver ourselves. Shipping is available too, but white-glove shipping usually costs about the same as — or more than — having us deliver. Delivery details.
