Custom work

What do you make?

Just about anything out of wood: dining tables, chairs, built-ins, small tabletop pieces, coffee tables, benches and cabinets. We build in any style.

How does a custom project work?

In short: you tell us what you want, we design it ($200 design fee, credited toward the piece, with two revisions), we sign a contract, you pay 70% down, we source, acclimate, build and finish the piece, it cures for 1–2 weeks, and we deliver; the last 30% is due on completion. Made-to-order pieces take 6–12 weeks from order; some projects take a little longer. Read the full process.

How much does a custom dining table cost?

Dining tables typically start around $5,100. The dining tables in our store currently start between $3,010 and $11,120, depending on the design; size and wood change the price. Coffee, side and accent tables typically start around $2,400. A custom design is priced once we know the size, wood, base and finish. See how our process works.

Is there a design fee?

Our design fee is $200, and it is credited toward your final price if you move forward with the build. It covers the initial design and two follow-up revisions. Send us photos of a table or project close to what you want and we will work from those, or describe what you have in mind and we will create a design from your description.

How do deposits and payments work?

We take credit cards only. Once we agree on the details, we both sign a contract — before any work starts and before the down payment. Then it’s 70% down, and the remaining 30% when your piece is finished. If you want to change something after the contract is signed, we write it up as a change order. Once the change order is signed and the additional fee is paid, we start on the change.

Can I change the size or wood of a table in your store?

Yes. Most store pieces are made to order in a variety of sizes and woods, and we can build other sizes on request. Ask us about your size.

Can you match a table or style I already have?

We can match a style closely, but not exactly, and we can color match, but we can’t guarantee an exact match.

Can I pick out my own boards?

We usually don’t keep much material on hand for clients to pick from, unless we have large, unique pieces in the shop. We buy from suppliers in Southern Wisconsin, Washington State and Pennsylvania, and from our local supplier, who sources a lot of material from Missouri.

Store and delivery

Are the pieces in your store in stock?

Most pieces in our store are made to order, in a variety of sizes and woods; very few are on hand. Local customers are encouraged to contact us directly for local pricing instead of using the online prices.

Can I see a piece before I buy?

Pieces we have on hand can be seen in person. Otherwise, the website is the best place to browse — and for a fee we can create a mock-up of the piece in your space.

Where do you deliver?

Delivery is free within 30 miles of Fargo. We usually deliver ourselves, so we may ask for a hand carrying the top or parts inside — at most 3–4 people, and not always needed. Beyond 30 miles we quote a delivery fee. We deliver across the US and prefer to deliver ourselves. Shipping is available too, but white-glove shipping usually costs about the same as — or more than — having us deliver. Delivery and service area.

Do you sell offcuts or scrap wood?

If an offcut is large enough to be useful, we’re happy to sell it to anyone interested; most of our offcuts become firewood.

Repair and refinishing

What do you repair?

Most repairs on wood items: repairing or replacing veneer, dings, worn finish, and broken or loose parts. We don’t do upholstery.

How do repairs work?

We prefer that you drop off and pick up your piece. We give you a quote before any work starts — 70% down, 30% on completion — and a timeframe at the same time. Repair and refinishing.

What if a repair turns out bigger than expected?

We tell you right away, with the estimated cost to complete it and the work required. If you’d rather not go over the original quote, we walk you through what we can do to get to that point.

Is repair work warrantied?

Repairs are covered for our craftsmanship only.

Classes

Do I need experience?

No. Our Introduction to Woodworking class is made for beginners.

How old do I need to be?

The minimum age is 16. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian present, who signs the waiver.

What should I wear and bring?

No long sleeves, loose clothing or jewelry, and long hair in a ponytail. Bring at least safety glasses, ear protection and gloves, plus a notepad and pen.

Can I come with my partner or a friend?

Yes — we encourage couples and friends to take the class together.

What if I can’t make my class?

Let us know as soon as possible and we’ll pick a later date together. There’s no refund if you can’t make the class. If we have to cancel and a new date doesn’t work for you, we refund you.

Where can I see class dates?

On our classes page. Questions? Ask us.

Gift cards

Do gift cards expire?

No, our gift cards don’t expire.

What can a gift card be used for?

Gift cards don’t expire and can be used on custom work, unless the card is specifically for classes. Buy a gift card.

Trade program

Do you offer a trade discount?

Yes. Interior designers, architects, home stagers and builders get 20% off through our Trade Program.

Care

How do I clean my table?

Wipe it with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry it right away. Avoid store-bought dusting sprays and bleach-based cleaners. Full care guide.

My table has a small crack. Is that a defect?

Wood is natural and keeps moving with humidity, temperature and the seasons. We walk every client through what to expect. Cracks or checks that develop on their own are not a defect. If you’re worried about one, send us a photo.

Can you refresh my finish later?

Later on, we can refinish or re-oil your piece for a fee — or walk you through doing it yourself.

Visiting the studio

What are your hours?

We don’t keep set hours; visits to the studio are by appointment only. Contact us to set up a time.

Can I visit while my piece is being built?

You get updates from us throughout the build and can ask questions at any time. Local clients are welcome to stop in and see their piece in progress — by appointment.
